This wonderful little pass is in almost perfect condition, considering it dates back 152 years! It is signed by Captain John Ruehle of the 2nd Michigan Volunteer Infantry and is for two members of Company K. One of them, Corporal Josiah L. Rowe, would be declared MIA during the fall Knoxville Campaign about seven months after this pass was issued. Evidently, Rowe was returned to his regiment because he is listed as being mustered out at Petersburg, Virginia in February of 1865. The other corporal named on the pass is David Ramsey, also of Co. K. Ramsey would serve with the 2nd until mustering out in early August of 1864. He would then join the 20th Michigan Volunteers and serve almost three months.

Captain Ruehle was honorably discharged in April of '64. He would die in Detroit in January of 1901.

Further endorsements on the backside of the pass. No tears, rips, holes or major stains. There is a bit of age toning but it doesn't detract. This would be a tremendous find for the Michigan collector or the general Civil War collector just looking for a nice, representative example of a pass. And boy, would this one frame beautifully!
