There is positively no weapon that screams "Confederate" or is more evocative of hand-to-hand combat than the D-Guard bowie knife. This is one of two excavated in an encampment of the 47th Virginia Infantry in Suffolk,Virginia. As you can see in the scans, for a dug example, it is "primo". This is definitely an excavated weapon and not a barn find. Though rusted and pitted after almost 150 years in the soil, it has been effectively preserved and treated. And it's now perfectly suited for a display case on the wall of your den or office.
This museum-worthy relic is just shy of 17 inches in length. At its widest, the blade is not quite two inches. This is exactly the kind of bowie knife you see Confederate soldiers posing with in period photographs. It seems to say, "Mess with me at your peril." I can tell you, this is one Yankee who would run for the hills staring at something like this!
The only missing piece is, of course, the wood handle. The metal ring around the grip moves freely but is intact. Everything else on this bad boy is tight as a drum and there have been no repairs.

Using the “Order Information” button right below the price USUALLY works, but not always. I don’t know why, but it could have to do with spam settings on either end. The easiest way to order or inquire about an item is simply to email me directly. Again, my email address is cwartifax@aol.com
Thanks!
