In reasonably good used condition, this cover is from a very desirable regiment. The 36th Indiana Volunteers were engaged in every major "western theater" battle from Shiloh to Bentonville. Regimental imprints are extremely popular and this is a fairly scarce one.

Cover is complete front & back, save for a minor reduction on the lower left-hand corner. This likely occurred when the contents were opened. Very nice 3 cent stamp with a clear bulls-eye cancel. The postmark very light. I cannot be sure, but I believe it reads "Indianapolis" and though the month is completely missing, there is a "1" indicating the first of the month. And I think the year is 1863, based on the roundness of what's left of the characters. You will have to be the judge, but dating really has no impact on value. These were manufactured before and during the war and were wildly popular collectibles during and after the war. And they remain so today.

A very nice piece from my extensive personal collection of regimental imprint covers.
